Excerpt

Still winded by her fall, her senses scrambled, Aria forced herself back to her feet. Fear tried to take hold, but she pushed it back and made herself focus on the only thing that mattered. Melody. Her baby was a warm, comforting weight against her chest. “You okay, little one?” She ran her hands over every inch of her child, soothing her as she checked for injuries. By the time she was done, Melody was quieter, and Aria breathed a sigh of relief. “No owies or booboos. Thank heavens.” She reached out one hand and started shuffling in a cautious circle, searching for a wall to use as a guide. She wandered for what felt like an eternity in the darkness, her nerves screaming, but finally her hand brushed against something solid. “Thank god.” She leaned her back against the wall and gave herself a moment. She was running on instinct and adrenaline. She needed to calm down and start thinking clearly. She took a few cleansing breaths, counting out the seconds of each exhalation. Just as she started feeling more centered, she heard something in the darkness, and fear turned her blood to ice water in a heartbeat. Who was out there? What was out there in the dark? “Hello?” “Aria? Are you unhurt?” A stranger’s voice called out. “Who are you? Where are you? I can’t see anything.” A hand touched her shoulder and a brilliant blue spark arced through the air, chasing away the dark for a moment. Once she saw the spark, she knew exactly who was with her. Her Pyrosian match had tracked her down somehow, and now both of them would have to face the consequences. I shouldn’t have come today. He’s going to be so disappointed.

Three hearts. Two worlds. No limits.

Tyran Varosa and Braxon Torr are on a mission. Find an inhabitable planet. Start a new colony. Escape the archaic rules and traditions of the Vardarian homeworld. Phaedra Kari has been called a lot of things in her life: trouble, cyber-jockey, lunatic, hacker, but never someone’s mate - not until an alien prince and his best friend arrive at the Drift. She’s got plans of her own, and they don’t include mating anyone, not even a pair of gorgeous aliens whose every touch tempts her to say yes.

Excerpt

The crowd suddenly hushed and she stopped talking to focus on the scene unfolding in front of her. The door to the newly arrived ship had opened, and a hot as hell male walked through it. At first glance, he appeared almost human, with short, black hair and a neatly trimmed beard. His skin was a shimmering silver, though, and he was taller than most of the humans and Pheran present. Another male followed after the first, and she had to bite her lip not to sigh in appreciation. The second male was a little taller and broader than the first, and his skin had a golden sheen to it. His hair was long enough to be tied back, but his beard was as closely cropped as his silver companions.

“They don’t look much like aliens.”

Zale grunted. “Maybe not to you.”

That was the moment both males unfurled their wings. Holy fraxx. They had wings! “I take it back. Wings are definitely alien.”

EXCERPTS

Joran
“I read your profile. You’re rich. And you have a job that ensures everyone around you has to do as you say. Your life is very different from mine.”
He stopped walking, perplexed by her response. Most females he’d met liked him because of who he was, and what he could provide them with.  “I’m rich, yes. Why do you say that like it’s a bad thing?”
Shadows darkened her eyes, the effect enhanced by the fact the sun vanished behind a fast moving band of dark clouds at the same moment.
“We’re going to get caught in that rain squall if we don’t move it.” She said.
“Not until you answer my question.”
She glowered at him and yanked her hand out of grasp. “My parents had money. Then my dad died, and that all went away. Being rich didn’t protect us. People like you all share that same belief that somehow your money and influence will protect you. You live in your glass towers and look down on the rest of us, but the truth is you’re as vulnerable to rocks as everyone else.”
“Are rocks a common problem on this planet? Is there a threat from asteroids?” He didn’t mean to say any of that out loud, but her declaration had him confused and irritated.
“It’s an expression. You know, people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. And what do you mean, on this planet? What other planets are there?”

Vadir
The dark alley Lisa had been standing in was gone. Hell, she wasn’t even outside anymore. Wherever they were, it was warm, dry, and brightly lit. Stark white walls curved in a semi-circle behind them, forming a small alcove. Beyond she could see a console full of instruments and two seats. It looked a bit like an airplane cockpit.
Overwhelmed by the number of things she couldn’t explain, she focused on the one thing she could deal with: Vadir.
She jammed her feet against one curved wall of the alcove and shoved as hard as she could. It was enough to loosen his hold, and she pressed her advantage. She pushed, kicked and twisted until he finally released her, though he was careful enough that she landed on her feet instead of falling into a heap on the floor.
“What was that? What did you do to me? And where the hell are we?” She demanded, waving her hands around her in wild gestures. She knew she was losing it, and she really didn’t care.
“That was a short-range teleportation. I brought you to my ship where we can talk without interruption.”
“As much as I wish it were otherwise, teleportation is not a real thing.” She poked her index finger into the rock-hard planes of his chest. “Try again. And this time don’t use any words you learned from watching Star Trek or Harry Potter.”
He captured her hand in his, pinning it to his chest. “This is real. We’re on my ship, the Redshift 7. We got here by teleporting. You’re my true mate, and I’m here to negotiate an agreement with you and then take you back to Pyros with me.”

Kash
“What did you treat it—“ he stopped talking as his hand cradled hers and a cobalt-blue spark arced from his hand to hers.
“Did you see that spark? It didn’t hurt, but it was so bright!”
“I saw it. Very strange.” That might be the biggest understatement of his life. He had just experienced the Spark; a sign from the Gods that this female was his true mate. It wasn’t merely strange, it was incomprehensible. He didn’t have permission to claim a human female. Flames, he wasn’t even supposed to be on this damned planet.
“What were you asking me a moment ago? Did you want to know what I treated the burn with?” Gwen asked.
He looked at the small blisters and reddened skin of her fingers. It had to be uncomfortable. He didn’t like the idea of his mate being in pain. “I did. These still look painful.”
“It’s not that bad.” She dismissed his concern with another shake of her head. “I soaked my hand in cold water and dressed it with aloe vera gel. From the plant over there. I’ll be fine.”
His mate had treated her injury with plant sap? Unacceptable. He ignored the outraged voice. She wasn’t his mate. She couldn’t be. It was forbidden.

Series: The Drift,  Book 4
Genre: Sci-Fi romance, Menage

Blurb

When the chips are down and the stakes are high, winning takes three of a kind

Book is on sale for 20% off until June 25th, 2017

Excerpt

When she yawned for the third time, she decided it was time for a cup of tea. That would keep her going for another hour or so. She headed to the kitchen, and stopped short when Dirk appeared in the hall in front of her.
“Your bedroom is in the other direction.”
“Yes, it is. But the kitchen is where the tea is.” She tried to step around him, but he folded his arms across his chest and moved in front of her again.
“You don’t need tea. You need sleep.”
“I’m fine. I learned to go without sleep while I was in med school.” She tapped his forearm with her finger. “So, if you’d get out of my way I’ll go get my tea.”
“Not going to happen. You’ve had a hell of a day, and you’re exhausted. I’m not a doctor, but even I can tell you’re pushing yourself too hard.”
She stifled another yawn and pointed toward the kitchen. “I’ll sleep in an hour. I promise.”
“Are you always this stubborn?” he asked, but his lips were turned up into a grin that belied the annoyed tone in his voice.
“Always.” She hadn’t gotten this far in her career, or her life, by backing down, and she wasn’t going to start now.
“Noted. But you’re still not getting your way. Not this time.”
He moved so fast she didn’t have time to do more than blink before he bent over and hauled her over one massive shoulder. When he straightened, she yelped in surprise and started kicking and squirming. She knew it was hopeless, but she wasn’t going to suffer through this indignity without a fight. Her fuzzy slippers thumped against his side, and every time they connected, dots of purple lights danced across the walls and ceiling.
Put me down, you jerk!”
He clamped an arm across the back of her thighs, locking down her legs and started walking down the hall, away from the kitchen. “I’ll put you down when we get to your bedroom.”
She smacked her hand against his ass, which was the only part of him she could reach as she dangled off his shoulder. “I was wrong. You’re not jerk. You’re an asshole. You know what’s worse than eavesdropping? This. This is worse.”
A door slid open somewhere in front of them, but all she could see was Dirk’s broad back.
“I heard yelling. Is everything okay?”
She wriggled again. “No, it’s not. You’re supposed to be my bodyguard, so help me! Make Dirk put me down right now.”
“Uh, Dirk, is there a reason our protectee is upside down and royally pissed off?”
“She needs to go to bed and is too stubborn to admit it. So, I’m escorting her there.”
“Uh huh.” Blade appeared beside her, grinning from ear-to-ear. “Cute slippers.”
“You’re not going to help?”
“I’m not. You need rest. You aren’t any good to anyone if you’re too tired to think.”
“You’re both assholes.” She gave up arguing and went limp.
“Yeah, but we’re still right. Good night, Doc.” Blade gave her a jaunty wave and vanished from sight again, still chuckling.

Wild Card

Wild Card (The Drift Book 3)

by Susan Hayes

The game of love can change in a heartbeat when fate deals you a wild card.
Technician Lieksa Kiv saw firsthand what the corporations did to their cyborg soldiers during the Resource Wars.  Her job: repair their damaged cybernetic components and send them back into battle. When a stolen kiss reveals the truth about her charges, Lieksa sacrifices everything to protect the cyborgs’ secret, including a future with the men she’s fallen for.
Mack Darian and Dash Scudo aren’t soldiers anymore. Inspired by the kindness of the woman who saved their lives and touched their hearts, they are defenders, instead. As Corporate Security, they’re dedicated to protecting the citizens of The Drift from all threats, including each other.
When these three lives reconnect, the flames of passion burn white hot. But before they can hope for a future together, they must contend with old secrets and present-day challenges threatening to tear their world apart.

Excerpt

“That’s what I first noticed about you. You cared about us. How was I supposed to stay away from you once I realized that?”
“Red hair, a kind heart, and a gentle touch. We were doomed right from the start.” Dash turned his hand over and captured hers in his fist.
“Afterward…I swore I’d never work on another cyborg or anything that could possibly be sentient. After everything I did to you, how can you forgive me so easily? I’ve never forgiven myself.”
“You saved our lives the first time we met. More than once, it turns out. The second time we crossed paths, you saved mine yet again. I think that’s grounds for a little forgiveness and understanding. If we couldn’t do that, do you think we’d be working for a corporation like Astek?”
“I wondered about that. At first, I thought it was the only work you could find. But Alyson told me you two have been here since the Drift was first set up. You really don’t mind working for the corporations after all they did to cyborgs?”
“After the Resource War ended and the spoils had been divvied up, there weren’t many jobs left that didn’t involve some sort of corporate connection. Most of the freighters, mining ships, and stations in the galaxy either work for them directly or depend on them for their livelihood. Our choices were simple. Sign on for more fighting with the IAF, work for the corporations, or go live in a backwater colony somewhere and try to eke out a living as a farmer.” Mack snickered. “Do you see either of us as the farming type?”
Her musical laughter was a song Dash’s heart wanted to dance to.
She was still laughing when their meal arrived. All conversation faded to appreciative silence as Jinella and another server set out the feast Nadia had arranged for them.
“I haven’t met Nadia yet, but I think she’s already my new favorite friend,” Lieksa declared with a grin.
“She’s an amazing cook. Great voice, too. In fact, she’s almost perfect.”
“Yeah, apart from that one flaw of hers,” Mack muttered and glanced around as if he was expecting Nadia to appear at any second.
“What flaw is that?” Lieksa asked.
“She’s a hugger,” Dash whispered with a theatrical shudder.
“And that’s a flaw?”
“A big one,” Mack chimed in.
Lieksa nearly choked on the first mouthful of her dinner. “Big, scary, cyborg soldiers turned Corp-Sec officers should not be afraid of hugs.”
“We’re not the touchy-feely type,” Mack said.
She set down her fork and looked first at Mac, then at Dash. “Really? Because I don’t recall you two ever having trouble getting touchy or feely with me.”
“You’re the exception to the rule.”
“You’re the exception to all our rules, sweetheart.” It was the truth. Since the day they’d woken up and found themselves under her care, she’d affected them in ways no other woman had. Dash didn’t understand it. He didn’t need to.
