Title: Soul Mates
Author: Nadine Nightingale
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Day: March 10th

About Soul Mates:
Alex is a righteous witch hunter. I’m a stab-worthy witch. We loved each other once. Now, we can’t stand to be near each other. It’s my fault. We are natural born enemies, after all. I had to help him save his brother from a psychotic voodoo priest, though. What can I say? I like Little Remington as much as I pretend to dislike Alex. Besides, he promised to never bother me again after that.   He kept his end of the bargain. I left my dubious life behind and started over. All is well. Until—   The truth about a deal with hell is revealed. I have to choose between the ultimate sacrifice or losing jerk-face forever. One will live, one will die. Who, solely depends on my selfishness.

Exclusive Excerpt:

I let go of the phone and press the heels of my hands against my temples. Anxiety is a bitch, and I better pull it together before I turn into the witch version of Holden Caulfield. Not that I have anything against the too smart, self-aware protagonist of The Catcher in the Rye, but I firmly believe teen angst should have an expiration date. I look at the digital clock on my nightstand, and my stomach dips a bit. In a little more than an hour, I’m supposed to sit in Penrose’s lecture. DeLuca will be there too, asking questions like, “Why did you whisper some dude’s name while I had you pinned against the closet?” Good times. Can’t avoid the inevitable. Gathering the last bits of energy buzzing through my numb body, I get up and stumble to the bathroom. I climb in the shower. Dipping my head back, I embrace the hot water pouring down my lethargic skin, but every time I close my eyes, I shiver. The blood, the torn flesh, and the fiery eyes haunt me. I turn the faucet, increasing the temperature from hot to I’m-gonna-end-up-in-the-ER-with-second- degree-burns. Why does shit like this keep happening to me? Did I not pay my karmic dues when I helped Alex save Jesse and those kids? Don’t I deserve a freakin’ breather? Some plus points on the cosmic scale? I rest my head against the shower wall, hoping the heat will burn away all the shit that’s bothering me. It doesn’t. Nothing can wash away the void this premonition has left inside me. The hot spray smears the makeup from last night. The scent of my jasmine perfume is replaced by the harsh smell of sandalwood soap. Hell, how I wish everything else would go away as easily. It won’t. Yeah, and I gotta stop pretending it will. By the time I wrap my hair in a towel and slap on a little makeup, I’m certain of three things: I need to get rid of DeLuca before his I’m-a-lovesick-obsessed- asshole act gets worse, my new life sucks, and I will call Alex, consequences be damned. I just put on my panties and bra when loud banging against the front door startles me. Bonnie is still fast asleep, the Nun has a key, and I’m not expecting any visitors. I step into loose jeans, pull a sweater over my head, and walk out of the bathroom. One thing’s for sure; whoever is knocking doesn’t know a thing about patience. The door vibrates, and if I didn’t know better, I’d say someone’s trying to break it down. “Jesus freakin’ Christ, I’m coming.” I yank the door open, ready to unload a shitload of anger, but when my brain processes what my eyes see, I can neither move nor talk. Blood. Bruises. More blood. Alex.

“You see him again, you head the other direction. He’s into some bad shit. I don’t want you around him.” “Uh . . . okay.” What in the hell had I just stumbled into? Jess sensed my unease. “Don’t stress about it. Just want you to be careful, okay? Word gets around town that we’re dating, he’ll know folks will be looking out for you and he’ll back off. It’s not about you. He’s just trying to get to me.” I was more than a little nervous that someone into “bad shit” was interested in using me to piss off Jess. But on top of that, I was now freaked that Jess thought we were dating. Even though we’d had a nice dinner, I hadn’t decided if I even liked him yet. “Okay. I’ll avoid Wes. No problem. But one thing . . . I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t tell people we’re an item. It was nice of you to take me to dinner and I had a good time, but I don’t think we’ll be dating.” “Do you find me attractive?” “Uh . . .” “I thought so,” he said. “Already told you tonight you were beautiful. So since we’ve got some major fucking chemistry and we get along, how about we cut the bullshit and see where this goes?” I took a moment to collect my thoughts and formulate a response. “Physical attraction is not a great foundation for a relationship. Again, thank you for dinner. But with the exception of tonight, so far you have spent more time insulting me than treating me nicely. Surely you can understand why I don’t think we’d be a good pair. Let’s call it quits after you drop me off.” “I apologized and I meant it. I was an asshole this week. Now fucking get over it.” “Are you trying to piss me off, Sheriff?” I said. “I don’t like your tone. You don’t get to order me around and make the decision we’re dating without my agreement. That’s absurd. It doesn’t work like that.” “It does. And we are. Exclusively, Georgia,” he said, glancing over at me as he stressed his last point. “Wait a minute. Let me get this straight,” I said, the hold on my temper loosening. “Not only did you just ignore me but you also felt the need to emphasize that our nonexistent relationship is exclusive. Something that if you knew me at all, you would never have had to emphasize because in any relationship, I have never been nor will ever be a cheater.” Jess pulled in a deep breath and let it out slowly. “Not saying you’re a cheater. Jesus, Georgia, relax. Just saying we’re exclusively together. Don’t want people around town thinking we’re just friends or we’re just fooling around. We’re gonna see where this goes.” “We’ve had one kind-of date, Jess. And I wouldn’t call us friends.” “Because we’re not just friends.” “I’m not dating you. I don’t even like you. Find someone else to keep you company at the cafĂ©.” “You like me. Can see it in your eyes when you look at me.” “Physically, yes. But personally, you’re a jackass.” He yanked the truck to the side of the road. “What are you—” I started but Jess reached across the cab, grabbed me at the back of the neck and slammed his mouth down on mine. I wanted to protest, I really did. To push him away and assert myself so he knew that he couldn’t just dazzle me with his looks and muddle me with his kisses. But he totally could.

Sweet Rivalry

SWEET RIVALRY - RDL banner

sweetriv

Ryder Rodgers had a plan.

He was going to stride into the conference room, do the required song and dance over the next five days, and win the biggest contract of his career. But when he walked in and heard the voice of one of his competitors, all his plans were shot to hell.

Harper Denton. She was always on top. In college. First in their class. Always using every advantage to edge him out to win the coveted positions. The only one who could beat him. His academic rival. More like a constant thorn in his side. And his ego’s.

When he heard her voice, he was brought back to years before. To the bitter taste of being second best. But the woman who meets his gaze is nothing like the drab wallflower he used to know. Hell no. She was all woman now: curves, confidence, and staggering sex appeal. And no doubt, still brilliant.

The fact that she’s gorgeous and bright won’t distract him. This time, Ryder’s determined to be the one on top. But not if Harper can help it.

He takes a step toward me then hesitates, but before I can process anything else, his lips are on mine.

And not just on mine––not just a brush of lips against lips—but I’m talking all in. Hands on my cheeks, tongue licking between my lips, body pressed against mine, groan in the back of his throat, type of all in.

I don’t react at first. I’m stunned. Flabbergasted, my mind reeling from the anger to the surprise to now this without any warning at all.

This is Ryder.

My rival.
My supporter.
My crush.

The thoughts flicker that this is what I’ve wanted. But they soon shift to panic. To insecurity I don’t kiss well enough. That this is all a joke and I’m the butt of it.

But then I feel. Everything. All at once.

And I know this is real.

It’s like I can’t catch my breath and have too much air all at the same time.

My body is on fire. And not just from his touch but from that burn deep inside that feels like it’s exploding and imploding all at once.

So this is what it feels like to really be kissed.

It’s a fleeting thought before the sensations, the moment, the emotions, consume me whole.

His hands move my face to change the angle of the kiss. His fingertips on the line of my jaw singe my skin. His lips move expertly against mine, and all I can do is feel. All I can do is want.

Thinking isn’t an option.

The anger from before has morphed to want. The adrenaline has recharged with desire.

There is no rivalry.

There is no graduation ceremony tomorrow I’m missing to catch my flight.

There is no panic over if I’ll ever see him again.

It’s just him.
And me.

The scent of his cologne in my nose. The heat of his body against mine. The taste of hunger in his kiss.

Exclusive Excerpt

I wait for him here at the place where the night sky and the earth become lovers. In the tall grass of our homeland, between two kingdoms, we meet.

Getting here early is easier than slipping away late, especially now when life in my village is bustling with the preparations for our wedding in just three days.

But as the reeds lick the backs of my calves, I know that this is only one part of the reason I wait.

The truth is that I like to feel him coming. At this hour, when my imagination reigns over every shape and whisper, I can almost see him walking on limbs taller and stronger than mine will ever be. He cuts through the night that hides his slightly lighter shade and stalks his prey. I cannot hear his approach, but I feel him drawing near, compelled by the same force that holds me where I stand—the scent of my desire in the air.

I close my eyes and breathe deeply, imagining I can taste him, too. The flavor is salt, sweet grass, and home. It fills my senses and makes me thirsty.

On the outside, my knees shake and my heart pounds, impatient for its mate, while the deepest part of me grows calm and still—stretching towards the peace that only his presence brings.

And he’s close now, so close.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Adele didn’t wait for further instruction and hurled the plastic nose cover into the air. Spinning, the snout missed Monique’s outstretched hand and continued its path of projection several feet over her head and to the right. Rudolf’s schnozzle caught the light and sparkling in the sun, made its descent. Monique shifted her weight to grab it. Almost there. She reached up and over feeling the ladder sway and rock beneath her. “Mommy!” Quickly seizing her perch with both hands, the sole of her boot slipped sideways on the metal step. Instead of regaining her balance, Monique skidded down one rung, and then another with her left foot and then another and another, until she found herself rappelling backward down the ladder, desperately grappling to hang on to whatever she could and praying for a soft landing. “Mommy!” She missed the last step and hit the ground, landing flat on her back. “Oh no!” Adele scampered to her and laid her soft chubby hands on Monique’s cheeks. Snuggling close, her sweet breath touched her skin. Adele inspected her eyes from an inch away. “Are you hurt bad?” “I’m okay, baby.” Reaching behind her back, Monique found the rock digging into her spine. She plucked it out of the dirt and flung it. “You shouldn’t be climbing on top of something you can’t handle.” Every cell of Monique’s body froze. Her heart paused mid-thump. The familiar drawl of the deep, sexy, voice coming from above propelled her back in time at warp speed to six years ago. But it couldn’t be him. Not in a million years. She wrapped one arm tightly around Adele, and shielding her eyes from the glare with the other, looked up. Shit. Trace Montgomery towered over her. He folded his arms over his chest making his smooth, muscled biceps bulge under his navy T-shirt. Wearing jeans that fit him as precisely as a fireman carries a hose, and with his swagger apparently still intact, he leaned back on the heel of his boot and tilted his face, rubbing his jaw. His unmistakable green eyes sparkled down at her. “W-what are you doing here?” “You’re hardly in a position to be asking questions.” He reached with a powerful hand and lifted her up off the ground, along with Adele. After removing a twig wedged between her legs and butt cheek, Monique attempted to get her bearings. Her brain stuttered, stopped and skipped over the right words to say. Her libido, however, operated flawlessly. Tingles charged from her neck to her toes and she broke into a sweat. Steadying her gaze on his preposterously handsome face, a result of mixed genetic magic, her heart beat out of her skin. Trace opened his arms for a hug. Before she could think, he wrapped them around her and squeezed, smelling like—well, smelling like Trace, a combination of clean, fresh and help me now, Jesus.

“Just give me a chance,” I whispered. “Give us a chance. Please.” “I need time to think.” She stood and moved toward the door. I followed. “I’m saying I like you.” She turned back to me. “I like you, too.” I stepped closer to her. “And I told you this because…” My eyes searched her face. “I think there is something going on here. Between us. Something more than friendship.” I took another step; she backed up and leaned against the entryway. “Don’t deny it. There is. I know there is.” In months of working together, Alex had never been this close to me, and it made me aware of the small details about her. She smelled like mint mixed with floral perfume. Her chest heaved as she gulped for air. She had a small scar above her eyebrow, and three moles in a small line on the side of her neck. A few wayward strands of dark hair had slipped from her loose ponytail, and the flicks of yellow in her green eyes beckoned. “Don’t try to push it away,” I said. “I know you feel it, too.” My breathing grew heavier. “You wouldn’t be here tonight if you didn’t.”

Exclusive Excerpt:

Marla’s form strutted out the door, her long hair flowing down her creamy white shoulders and hourglass frame. That black dress hugged her petite body, and I observed the way her ass moved as she hooked her coat and purse over her arm. Her femininity was alluring. The way she held herself and her delicate skin smelling like cinnamon made me hard. It matched her sizzling mouth that I wanted to suck on and kiss raw.

I lifted myself out of the seat and crossed the room to her as she fumbled to put on her coat. One side hung down and I grabbed it with ease. She jerked away, attempted to escape me as I held it up.

Mahogany eyes glared at me. She was on defense, no doubt from Ryan and whatever other idiots had disillusioned her about chivalry and romance. I would prove to her it wasn’t dead.
“Is the date set with Dumbledore?”
Her ruby red colored lips pressed down a smile as she shook her head. “His name’s Gandalf, and he asked me to an early bird dinner at Denny’s.”
Cute. At least she was open to joking with me, if only a bit. But she was also nervous. I could see it reflected in the way she moved, even the way she breathed. “Let me walk you to your car.”
“No, I’m fine.”
She moved at a faster pace and I kept up easily. I wasn’t letting her walk alone at night, especially with the type of men I saw in there. “I’m walking you out.”
“My car’s in the parking garage, they have security cameras.”
She was one tough cookie. Independent, used to doing things on her own, she probably attracted the men who were complete opposite of her. She liked to be in control and so did I. You’d think this would pose some type of problem, but I was attracted to it. I moved closer to her, my mouth near her ear. “You like pushing me away, don’t you?”
She turned her head toward me and rolled her eyes. “Let me guess, you’re one of those alphas who likes to see his woman submit. You want the type of woman who will adore you every night, follow you around all day, and tell others how amazing you are at everything you do.”
“You certainly like pretending you know who I am. Since we met you’ve been nothing but judgmental toward me and only me. Why is that?”
We were riding in the lift, but she didn’t dare give me a glance. Instead she pressed the button to the ground floor, even though it had already been lit up. She pressed at it again, as if it would make it go faster.
“I don’t like guys like you.”
“Guys like me?”
“Yeah. I’ve dated guys like you.”
I couldn’t help but laugh as I rested in the corner against the wall. What to say to a woman who thought she already knew everything about you? I’d give it a go. “So, some idiot who lived in the gym dated and hurt you, and now you think all men who work out are the same?”
“Whether they live in the gym or not, they all end up being the same. They all want a certain type of woman.”
“Which is what?”
The doors finally opened and she scurried out, searching for her keys in her bag. “The easy woman to comply with whatever they want, whenever they want, however they want.”
“That type of woman is boring.”
She turned to her red Toyota Prius and opened the door, throwing her purse in the passenger side and starting her car. “Exactly. Yet they all want it.”
Before she could shut the door, I stepped in front of it and leaned down as she strapped on her seatbelt. “Darling, I’m not afraid of hard work. I know you’re an independent woman, and though most men find that threatening, I find it extremely sexy.”
“You know what I find extremely not sexy? The fact that you find a woman like me to be hard work. Strike one, pal.”
She threw her hand up holding two fingers, and either she was warning me that I had two chances left, or she shot me the peace sign. I believe it was the latter. Either way, she was not happy. If I wanted to make headway with Red, I was going to have to get some inside help to thaw the icy heart within that fiery woman.

Exclusive Excerpt:

I could have walked away. Hell, I could have run. I could have gotten in a cab and gone home. I didn’t even have a purse with me, only some cash in my back pocket. I hadn’t wanted anybody to find my ID and put two and two together. I didn’t. I stayed where I stood. Held in place by Drake’s voice. “Are you going to answer me?” he asked. I turned to him. “Could we not talk about this right here?” I asked, looking around. “It’s a little public out here.” “Fine.” He grabbed my arm and pulled me around to the side of the building, where there was no one but us. “Tell me what’s wrong with you.” “I thought after today you wanted me, is all. And I thought, okay, I’ll make a move. But you made me feel like…” “Like what? A slut?” He smirked. “You think this is funny? You’re disgusting!” I raised my hand to slap him, instinct taking over, and his hand was out in a flash to grip my wrist. He had the reflexes of a cat to go with the way he moved. “That’s more like it,” he murmured. “That’s the real you. Not the one who flashes her tits and tries to come on to me. You’re the girl who tries to hit me because she doesn’t know what else to do to pretend she doesn’t want me.” He leaned in, pushing me back until I was pressed against the sun-warmed bricks of the Clubhouse, still holding their heat from earlier in the day. My body burned the way they did. “Leave me alone, Drake.” “You act like that because you don’t like the way I talk to you. You’re not used to guys talking to you that way. But you like it. You like it when I do it, and you hate yourself for it, and you put up walls between us.” His body was against me, all muscle and strength and power. I felt the heat coming from him, too, just like that from the bricks. Sweat trickled down the back of my neck. “Stop this.” I turned my head away, as his mouth was so close to mine. “Not this way.” “What way?” “I don’t like it like this. Stop trying to overpower me. You don’t have to try so hard.” “And neither do you.” He placed a finger under my chin, turning my head until our eyes met. “I wouldn’t work so hard to get through to you if you didn’t work so hard to keep me away. Why don’t you just give in to what you want? What we both want?” “And that is what?” I could hardly breathe, my heart was racing so out of control. My knees were jelly, the blood rushing in my ears. “For me to take you to my room and give you a night you’ll never forget.” He brushed his lips against mine, ever so gently, causing a blazing inferno to erupt and consume me. I leaned further in, closer to him, but he pulled back with a devilish grin. “See? I know what you want better than you do. And I can give it to you.” He licked his lips. “You want it?” “Yes,” I breathed. It was so easy to give in. Drake was right.
