EXCERPT
“Oh, don’t you dare patronise me. I am not your fiancée. I’m not polished or elegant enough to be considered your wife. According to your family the only reason you would consider me is if I were pregnant.”
He moved and sat at the edge of the bed. “Don’t mind my sisters. Their opinions don’t matter.”
“So if I discount your sisters, what about you?” She waved her hand in the air at him.
“What about me?” His eyes narrowed as his brows creased.
“I’ve worked with you for two years and you’ve never even noticed me, never paid me any attention other than for work. I’m here now because you need a fake fiancée. Your sisters think we’ve been having sex in the office. If only they knew you wouldn’t touch me with a barge pole.”
She suddenly had no wish to hide her emotions about him, as anger bolstered her resolve.
"You think I never noticed you all these years?" Kamali asked in a gravelly voice that carried a warning.
Ebun halted before she reached the door to the bathroom. Heart racing, she folded her arms around her midriff to hide their trembling and didn't turn to face him.
"When you're deep in concentration you bite your bottom lip until it turns pink," he continued, his tone deeper than normal. "When you smile, a dimple appears on your left cheek ... and when you're excited, your brown eyes sparkle like gold dust."
So enthralled by his words, she hadn't heard his approaching footsteps until her back prickled with his body heat.
"Ebunoluwa, I notice you every goddamned day."
His candour undid her, and smashed through defences she’d erected around her. All the while she’d thought he’d overlooked her, he’d been paying attention. Warmth seeped into her heart and tingled across her chest.
What could she say to him? ‘Thank you’ seemed inadequate and inappropriate.
In any case, it wasn’t gratitude making her pulse accelerate and her body tremble as she turned around.
Her heart slammed against her ribs when she met Kamali’s burning gaze.
The intensity of his stare pinned her to the spot and she couldn’t move.
“Granted, we're here now because I need your help. But it doesn’t take away the fact that you are a beautiful woman. There’s no way anybody will not notice you. Trust me.”
Before she could assimilate his words, his lips descended on her. First it was a light brush against hers from one edge to the other. But in that heart-stopping moment, her lips parted as she wanted closer contact, the urge to taste him increasing by the second.
He didn’t disappoint her. His tongue delved into her mouth. Plundered and possessed her. She yielded and opened up. Welcomed the heat, and the intensity.
He unleashed repressed feelings, allowing passion to reign supreme.
Her fingers clutched his shirt, clinging on, needing his solidity to keep her standing when her knees threatened to give way.
He was her anchor keeping her grounded in a world where she was boneless and about to float away.
He broke the kiss and whispered against her lips, “Look at what you do to me.”
The deep timbre of his voice made her heart race as his fingers gripped the nape and tilted her head back.
“If you knew the thoughts in my head, the things I want to do to you, to your beautiful body,” he continued.
She breathed in short bursts, his words as electrifying as his touch. He thought she had a beautiful body?
There was no mistaking the lust in his dark gaze. But there was something else, enthralling and revealing, all at the same time.
“You want me?” She couldn’t hide the surprise in her voice. She’d just had the most exhilarating kiss of her life. Was there a chance for more?
“Yes. Don’t look so surprised. I’ve wanted you from the first day I met you. But I swore I wouldn’t touch you.” His thumb stroked the sensitive skin of her neck.
The weight on her chest fizzled away leaving her lightheaded as her pulse sped up and adrenaline rushed through her.
“I thought...” Her mouth had dried out. She licked her lip and swallowed. “I thought you didn’t want me. Couldn’t want me. Look at me, I’m not pretty.”
“Ebunoluwa,” his voice suddenly took on a stern, warning tone. “Don’t ever say that. You are beautiful.”
She shook her head. He had to say it to cheer her up.
How could he describe her as beautiful? His sisters were beautiful. The woman they’d called Laila was beautiful.
He gripped her hand and tugged it down. “Do you need proof of how beautiful you are, of how much I want you?”
She lowered her gaze to his groin before he placed her hand on the bulge tenting his trousers. He was hard and hot under the fabric.
“This is what you do to me every time I see you.”
“Really?” she asked in a breathless voice.
“Yes,” his voice sounded gruff as if he was fighting for control.
Desire burnt away the last of her inhibitions. Feeling emboldened, she stroked his turgid length through the linen.

His groan rumbled around them, his eyes gleaming. “If you keep doing that, I’m going to come. But I’d rather do it while buried inside you.”

Sacred Amulet Duet

Title: Outcast & Sacrifice
Series: Sacred Amulet Duet
Author: Kiru Taye
Genre: Paranormal / Fantasy / Romance

OUTCAST (Sacred Amulet, Part 1)
Ugo’ji is an outcast, an untouchable. She lives on the fringe of society as the lowest of the low, a living sacrifice to the gods. The only person she interacts with is her aged grandmother who nurtures her powerful gift of healing. Until the day she meets Ebube a strange warrior to their lands. He ignites a yearning within her she's unable to ignore.

Ebube is drawn to the young maiden with the emerald green eyes who possesses the body of a goddess and the healing touch of an angel. But he is forbidden from mating with a human and the consequence is the wrath of the gods.

Moreover he is on a mission. If he fails, the gates of hell will be opened and the earth plunged into darkness. He cannot stay and she cannot go with him.

EXCERPT
A twig snapped. Ebube froze for a heartbeat. Unsure of what was approaching, he reached for his scabbard still strapped to his hips.  Without making a noise, he withdrew the dagger in a slow fluid motion. The trees and shrubs around him provided some cover for him. He wouldn't be seen until he was ready to attack.
Footsteps walked in his direction. Human? Knife poised to strike, he manoeuvred his aching body into a crouching position.
As the leaves of the shrubs in front of him parted, he swung his leg out tripping the creature. The person tumbled down onto the ground beside him and he pounced, his dagger already on its downward motion.
Then he froze.
It was a young woman.
“No!” Her scream rent the air as his arm stopped mid-swing. His grip on his weapon tightened. His other hand held her side down firmly. Soft, smooth, warm skin trembled beneath his palm.
He stared at her, fixated by her allure. The shape of her face reminded him of an eagle’s egg, beautiful and fragile, full of inner strength. Eyes the vibrant green of okra twirled in the cream of ukwa stared back at him with fright. They held him captive and he fell into their depths, barely aware of his increased breathing and heart rate.
Mine. For the first time today, his spirit beast roused, alert and pushing to get to the fore.
What? The feral creature living in him had just laid claim to the maiden which made her...  Mine. The word whispered again in his mind.
This girl was his bond mate? The woman destined to be his life partner? This couldn’t be. She was human. Her life force undulated beneath his skin as proof.
He was Ure, part human and part god. A supernatural being. He wasn’t permitted to bond with humans.
But his spirit beast had never risen before without the amulet to connect them. Yet it had done so on this occasion.

SACRIFICE (Sacred Amulet, Part 2)
Mating an outcast requires a blood sacrifice.

Ebube has rejoined his warriors on the hunt for the sacred amulet but his heart is left behind with Ugo. He's focused on completing his task and returning to her quickly.

Ugo has found a new confidence since Ebube's departure. After saving a child's life, she is now in demand for her skills and those who had previously ignored her now take an interest in her. Her quiet moments are preoccupied by thoughts of Ebube's return.

But the gods are not so forgiving or forgetful and they will demand a high price for Ebube's and Ugo's disobedience.

EXCERPT
Ebube’s favourite dream involved waking with Ugo beside him in his home on the Amauwa settlement.
There they had a good, simple, and happy life. Peace in the realms and the warriors at home.
She placed a kiss to his face, the tip of his nose and his closed eyelid before whispering, “good morning.”
Half befuddled with sleep he reached for her, hand settling on her hip as he struggled to stay still, needing her in ways that he couldn’t always express.
“The morning is good because you are here,” he replied in a voice still gruff from the night.
“You are awake,” her voice was filled with amusement.
“I am now.” He cracked his eyes open and filled them with a vision of Ugo dappled in dawn’s grey light.
A smile played on her lips even as strands of her braided hair brushed over her shoulders and plump breasts.
He trailed his hand down her smooth back over the curve of her waist to her wide hips and pliant buttocks swell over long legs that he now pulled down on either side of his so that she sat astride of him.
In the time that he’d known her, her body had ripened from that of a girl into a woman.
He had always been a man ready to go to war to protect the realms. Ready to put himself in danger and journey to whatever lands his missions took him.
Now he wanted to stay close to Ugo. To have her as a constant in his life. He couldn't imagine a future without her. A mate to share highs and lows and make family.
“Now that you’re awake, my warrior, what would you like?” She rolled her bum over his groin.
His breath hitched as he hardened.
“Precious,” the endearment was hardly more than a groan on his lips.
She had never been this bold before.
He glanced up to find her smirking as she rolled her hips again. “Yes, my warrior. I have exactly what you want.”

Freddie Duet

Freddie Duet by Kiru Taye
Series: The Essiens #6 & #7
Genre: Romantic Suspense, Women's Fiction

Reading Order:

FREDDIE ENTANGLED - BLURB
Violence marked Freddie Edun's early years. Coming to work for the Essiens saved him from the angry young man he was and gave him focus. Now he's walking the path of success, and partnership in Banks Security business is within reach. He just has to seal this deal with a potential customer first. Until he meets the client's wife, and the deal risks taking a nose dive.

Kike Ogun married young to a man who dazzled her with his bogus charm. She’s lived like a caged bird for many years, but with a looming milestone birthday on the horizon, she is determined to walk a new path of self-love. If she could just ignore the electrifying and forbidden attraction she feels towards a younger man from the first moment they meet.

With a devious husband who refuses to let go, she’s going to need help—Freddie’s protection—to stay alive long enough to celebrate her upcoming birthday. And she’s going to have to give in to her dark passion for him and finally unleash the natural woman inside. If it's only sex, then what's love got to do it?

This story unravels in two instalments—this is the first part.

EXCERPT
“Did you know that your gateman believes that God guards your house?” Freddie’s words cut into her thoughts, drawing her attention back to him. “And therefore, he doesn’t have to do anything more than just opening and closing the gates?”
Kike sighed. She remained aware of the lackadaisical attitude towards security around here. As if by being a pastor, her husband and anyone associated with him became bulletproof.
“I know. It’s part of the reason I don’t feel safe,” she replied in a monotone voice. “Sometimes, I feel as if I’m going to be murdered in my sleep and everybody is going to dismiss it as the will of God.”
Freddie stopped the car just after he went past the main gates leading out of the estate. He turned in his seat and stared at her, eyebrows drawn together. “Do you feel that unsafe? Did someone threaten you?”
Damn. Why had she blurted that out? She shouldn’t have spoken those words out loud. She’d never said anything like that to anyone before. And she certainly shouldn’t have said it to Freddie.
She avoided eye contact, and her gaze bounced around the car interior before settling on a spot beyond the windscreen at the high fence surrounding the building across the road. She clenched her hands into fists and closed her eyes, counting between inhales and exhales.
“Mrs. Ogun, is there something I should know?”
“Look, Freddie—“” Saying his name felt very intimate like she knew him on a personal level, which she didn’t. He was just a man looking to provide a service to her and her family. She needed to remember that. She avoided his searching gaze. He seemed able to discover things she hid. Not to mention the ease with which she had confided in him. “Forget I said that. It was nothing.”
“It’s not nothing.”
Cool palm covered the bare skin on her wrist. Her pulse jumped, her skin electrified, and her breath hitched. She turned her head so quickly that she felt woozy, the disorientation made worse when she met his gaze.
His eyes were full of questions, concern, and compassion. He looked at her as if he’d understood her fears even before she’d spoken them.
What was going on with her? He didn’t know her. Couldn’t know her. And he was never going to get the chance to know her.
“Just drive.” She ordered, forced herself to look away again, and tried to tug her arm free. He didn’t let her go. She swallowed as her skin flushed.
“Kike.”
Her heart skipped a beat. Her name on his lips was beautiful, like a plea whispered by an old lover rather than a man she hardly knew. The low timbre vibrated through her, making her core throb. Her skin tingled where he held her. She was certain he could feel her racing pulse underneath his thumb.
Did he know that his restraint excited her?
She closed her eyes and held her breath. An image of him caging her with his body popped into her mind.
Her eyes flew open, and she raised her palms to cover her face.  So she’d become starved of a lover’s affection in the past few years. But did she desperately miss the touch of a man enough to forget herself? That she would ache for the first man who inadvertently pushed her needy buttons?
“You shouldn’t call me that.” Her breathy reprimand came out weak, more to remind herself that she was just a client to him than to prompt him of his status.
“You can tell me anything,” he said, his enticing voice filled with empathy. “You can trust me. What I said in your house is true. I will protect you from any threat.”
“Okay.” Her voice croaked, and she swallowed.
“So will you tell me what’s going on?” he probed.
Her first impulse was to tell him the truth. To bare her soul to him. His soothing tone felt almost magical and inspired trust.
Breaking the habit of a lifetime proved difficult. She’d hidden things about herself from other people for years. When people found out things about her, all she ever got back were judgements and criticisms. The only person who ever really understood her was Lekan. See how that had turned out.
“Nothing is going on.” She still didn’t meet his gaze. At least this way, he wouldn’t know she was telling a lie.
He didn’t say anything for several racing heartbeats.

“Okay. When you decide to talk, I’ll be here to listen. Any time of day.” He pressed the ignition knob, indicated, and pulled out of the junction, heading to Yomi’s school.

EXCERPT

Freddie turned to Kike who stood at the still locked front door with a contemplative expression.
“Shall I do the honours?” He stretched his hands out for the keys.
She handed them over. “I feel as if I should cut a ribbon or something.”
He found the right key and inserted it into the lock, twisting until it clicked. He shoved the heavy slab inwards.
“I feel as if I should carry you over the threshold.” Smiling, he winked at her.
She chuckled. “That would imply that we’re newly-weds.”
“A guy can dream, can’t he? Ladies, first.” He gave an exaggerated bow and waved his hand with flourish.
“As you wish, Gentleman.” This time she winked at him.
He could swear she emphasised the word ‘Gentleman’ on purpose which had his pulse racing and his cock hardening. Surely she didn’t know how much the word affected his mind and body.
Groaning, he followed her indoors and discretely tried to adjust the swelling in his jeans.
“I can help you with that.” She glanced back and tipped her head at his groin. Oh, she definitely knew exactly what her provocative words did to him.
“Lady,” he growled in warning. “Be careful what you wish for. Because that sassy mouth of yours is writing a cheque your ass is going to cash later.”
Her eyes widened but the teasing smile didn’t go away. She batted her long dark lashes innocently. “But what did I do?”
He closed the gap between them and she moved back. “You know exactly what you’re doing. Agreement or not, I know when someone is begging to be spanked and I’ll be more than happy to oblige you, right here, right now.”
Her back hit the wall as he caged her into the corner by the stairs, his hands splayed on either side of her head. He shoved his knee between her thighs, spreading them out.
Through her loose-fitting, merlot, linen trousers, the heat from her crotch burned him. The pulse on her collar thumped fast and her pink tongue darted, swiping her bottom lip. She wanted that spanking. He could see it in her bright gaze fixed on him.
By his calculation, she hadn’t had sex in close to two months. So she would be as ready to combust as he was. He wasn’t averse to dishing out some sexy torture.
Grinning wolfishly, he leaned forward and brushed his lips on her left ear lobe. “Go ahead, kitten,” he spoke low and against her smooth skin. “Taunt me some more. Make my day. Let’s christen this house with the cracks from my palm on your lovely behind.”
He pinched her bottom with his left hand. With his right hand, he tugged her nipple through her pink t-shirt.
Her breath hitched and she rocked her hips, rubbing her crotch on his knee. “Plea—”
“Oga Freddie,” one of the moving men interrupted her.
“Hold on, I’m coming.” Freddie replied as he pulled away from Kike.
Her head was tilted back, exposing her neck. Eyes closed and mouth open as she panted, she looked partially debauched. Sensually corrupted was a state he wanted to see her in often in this house. She’d been ready to plead for something. He looked forward to a time when they could explore their connection uninterrupted.

“Welcome to your new home, kitten.” He pressed his lips to her forehead and left her to tidy up as he went to deal with the movers.

Apprehension knotted Kike’s stomach as she showed Freddie around the house she planned to rent. The estate agent had arrived ten minutes earlier with the keys. Kike had asked the woman to wait outside while she showed Freddie the place.
“Have you already seen this house previously?” Freddie asked as they headed up the stairs to the upper level. He probably wondered how she knew her way around the property.
“Yes. Tolani used to live here before she moved to Lekki. She’s just finished refurbishing it ready to let it out,” Kike replied.
“So it’s a three-bedroom house?” Freddie asked as he strode into the large master bedroom.
The space lay empty aside from the built-in closet and an en-suite bathroom.
“Four—bed. Three up here and a guest room downstairs. Ranti and Yomi need separate rooms. They can have the other two and I’ll have this one.” Kike replied.
On her single income, she couldn’t afford a huge house like the one she shared with her husband. Leaving Lekan meant walking away from the ostentatious lifestyle. A price she would happily pay for her peace of mind.
“Is there an annex for the security team?”
“Yes, there’s a 2-bed boys' quarter at the back.” She sashayed to the large window overlooking the back courtyard and pointed at the single-level building close to the back wall. “There.”
“Okay.” Freddie came to stand beside her, his right arm brushing her left.
Her skin tingled at the contact as her heart raced. The man took her breath away just by being around her. His presence in her life had reawakened her as a woman.
“But I’m hoping you’ll spend more time in here with me than out there.” She swallowed and held her breath, her sweaty palm clenched around the leather handle of her tote.
Although they'd shown their attraction to each other, he hadn’t done anything to indicate he wanted to become her lover, or a live-in one at that. He remained restrained in his interactions with her.
There had been the moment in Rebel Studios earlier today when he’d given her an orgasm in the most delicious way. But that could have been the result of his frustration at her because he’d found her in Lekan’s room a week ago.
She’d hurt Freddie and, in all honesty, she hadn’t been expecting him to forgive her so readily. So he had the right to reject the invitation to her bed.
He turned, leaning his side against the cream wall. A slow smile curled one corner of his lips. “You want me to share your bed?”
Warmth bloomed through her chest at seeing his smile, easing some of the tension in her back muscles. “Yes. I’d love to have you in my bed. Every night if possible.”
He reached out and cupped her cheek. She leaned into his touch, relishing his callused palm and the tingles spreading out on her skin.
“You know I want you, more than I’ve ever wanted any other woman.”
The mixture of his raspy voice and coarse hand sent bolts of desire piercing through her and melting her core.
“But the only way I’m going to make love to you is if you choose me as your Dominant. You are my kitten and that’s the way I want you in bed.”
