Burning Hot Rumors

BURNING HOT RUMORS

by Debra Kayn Choices: Tarkio MC, #2 Publication Date: January 21, 2020 Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance, Biker, Standalone in a Series

SYNOPSIS

For Callie Moore, it’s a day-to-day struggle to live in a town where everyone thinks she’s the worst person on earth— thanks to rumors. Divorced, living with her ailing dad, and the scars of finding her ex-husband in bed with not one, but two, of her friends, have her on a downward spiral.
Her immediate problems outweigh her concern over the rough and gruff biker her dad hires to help out at the gas station. No matter how attractive she finds Kent, he’s only another person she needs to defend herself against.
A drifter his whole life, Kent Calder can live anywhere as long as he has his motorcycle and a road in front of him.
Stopping at Moore’s Gas Station was only a pit stop on a road trip with no destination. A way to put a few dollars in his pocket. He has no plans to stay in Missoula, where drama and rudeness from the locals is a way of life.
Until the talk centers around Callie, and he sees what the lies are doing to her.
If she can’t stand up for herself, he’ll fight for her. But as soon as he stomps out one fire, another one pops up.
Through attraction, heartache, devastation, and time, the flames between Kent and Callie only grow hotter.

He turned and looked out on the floor. It took him longer to find her because she was hidden behind the biker talking to her. He craned his neck, caught her smiling at the other man, and tensed.
Stalking across the floor, he shoved people out of his way and stepped between her and the Tarkio member.
"Man, you better step away," said the biker.
"Get lost." He grabbed Callie's upper arm and pulled her away.
"Wh…?" Callie stumbled beside him. "Who?"
He ignored her mumblings and pushed out the front door. Turning her to face him, he gazed up and down her body to make sure she was okay.
Callie's mouth opened and shut numerous times, and she blinked rapidly. "Kent?"
"Nice of you to recognize me," he said.
"I thought I'd never see you again." She planted her hands on his chest, but her body weaved side to side, trying to gain her balance.
He caught her other arm and held her steady in front of him. That's when he noticed the way her eyes remained unfocused on him.
"What the hell have you been doing?" He stroked her hair out of her eyes.
Gut punched, he remembered the excitement, the passion, the energy swirling around her the night she'd finally let loose and egged her ex-husband's truck. He'd walked away from her that night as if he'd gotten his first taste of the real Callie, and his addiction to her had started.
How many other men inside the clubhouse were standing in the same position he was, half in love, fantasizing about being with a woman who had no understanding that fire ran through her veins? How many other men wanted to be the one who helped her set herself on fire?
Callie crumbling, diving for his chest. He wrapped his arms around her, keeping her on her feet. A fire brought him back to her.
"I lost everything," she mumbled against the front of his jacket.
"I know." He rubbed her back, happy to hold her. "Fuck, I missed you, honey."
She raised her head and frowned. "You left."
"I needed to go." He kissed her forehead. "But I'm back."
She pushed against him. "Why?"
"I want to help—"
"No." She stepped away from him, almost stumbling. "You can't just invade my life and then leave again. You're just listening to the rumors. Everyone listens to Josh."
"I'm not—"
"You listened." She tapped her head, slurring her words. "That's why you left. Now you're listening to him again. Just go. Leave me alone."
She grabbed for the handle. He planted his hand on the door, stopping her.
"I'm not listening to anyone but you, Callie."

EXCLUSIVE RELEASE EXCERPT

"Still sneaking around, fox?" His chest pounded.
She slowly pivoted. Her head turned left to right, sweeping the area. She couldn't see him in the shadows by the tire rack.
He stepped out under the glow of the floodlight. Her gasp traveled the empty space between them. Every muscle in his body tensed at the sight of her. He tossed his smoke to the side.
That beautiful red hair. He had known with everything inside of him, she would be wearing it long and full. Gray eyes stared at him, studying his face. He couldn't help looking down and seeing the woman the girl had turned into, and what he found was perfection.
The added curves on such a petite body rocked him back a step. Her breasts that would've barely filled his palm years ago would now overflow his hand. He gazed lower. The urge to ask her to turn around left him breathing heavily at the changes in her.
It was Scarlett, but a Scarlett he was seeing for the first time.
"Nelson?" she said, drawing out his name.
His balls constricted in pleasure. All that sweetness nobody ever gave him, but her.
"I heard…" She blew out her breath. "I heard you were home. I didn't know…I didn't know if you'd come back here."
Pain gripped him. She believed the rumors floating around about him.
"You better tell your friends and neighbors I'm back." He pulled the pack of cigarettes from his pocket and lit another smoke. "Maybe you can set up a Neighborhood Watch. You're good at sneaking around."
She recoiled frowning. "You've changed."
He exhaled harshly. "That'll happen when you spend ten years in prison."
"Are you okay?" She stepped forward.
His body hardened. He flicked his cigarette out into the gravel, unable to hold it any longer because his hands shook. She was too close. He couldn't allow her to get near him, touch him, care about him.
She stopped two feet away from him. Her gaze followed the lit coal burning on the rocks. "You're not happy to see me?" she whispered.
She acted as if he'd personally hurt her, that ten years shouldn't have changed him. That she could sneak on the property and be pissed at him for how he'd turned out.
"Go home," he whispered back.
"I…" She tilted her head. "Is there anything you need?"
He needed a woman. He needed her.

Identical twin sisters move to St. John's, Oregon, buy Vavoom's Bar, and purposely put themselves into the path of Notus Motorcycle Club.

Burdened by a deep, dark secret, Clara has to be careful because one wrong step, one wrong word, could land her and Gracie in prison. Her need to stay close to the motorcycle club members backfire when Wayne Shaw throws her heart into a tailspin. There is more to the possessive biker than she originally thought. Cornered and out of options, she can only go forward and hope Wayne protects her.

Wayne Shaw splits his time between working at Port Loaders, searching for missing persons in partnership with the local police department, and keeping Notus Motorcycle Club together in hopes a brother will come home. Skilled at finding clues normal people miss, he has no trouble telling the new owners of Vavoom's apart. He only wants Clara.

When a little girl goes missing, followed by a teenager disappearing, Wayne's need to keep Clara safe while searching for a serial killer gets tested…until he's no longer sure who is the hunted and who is the hunter.
Excerpt

Wayne placed the dishes in the sink, shut off the lights, and guided her to the stairs. Halfway up the steps, he stopped. "Kings of Leon."

"What?"

He looked at her. "The group that does the song you were humming. Sex on Fire."

She laughed and smacked his arm. "No way."

"Swear it." He kissed her quickly and chuckled.

She shook with laughter all the way to his bedroom. Never in her wildest dreams had she imagined Wayne, president of Notus MC, teasing her or so fun to be around. The normal awkwardness of first-time sex with another person never showed up. Everything that had to do with him seemed almost too perfect.

A phone beeped in Wayne's back pocket, and two seconds later the doorbell rang. She dropped his hand and stood beside the bed.

"Hang on a second. I need to answer the door." He kept his eyes on the screen of his phone and walked out of the room.

She followed him to the bedroom doorway and stopped. He'd gone downstairs.

In her sight, Wayne opened the front door at the bottom of the stairs. Glen walked inside. Clara stepped back planning to crawl into bed and give Wayne privacy when Glen said, "A girl is missing."

A chill crawled up her spine. She stepped forward, staying out of sight.
