Fighting for Jax

Fighting for Jax (Marlowe #4)
By Alexandria Bishop
Blurb:
Erin Morris made a decision that would forever change her life and those in it. With fierce determination and hard work, she has found success but never forgotten where she came from and the boy she left behind. Four years later, Erin has an opportunity to right the wrongs of her past and help the one person she has always loved.

Jackson “Jax” Hartley embodies everything expected of his bad-boy rocker persona. With success and popularity comes the ability to indulge in everything offered him - money, women, booze, and drugs. When he’s given an ultimatum by his bandmates to clean up his act or lose the career he’s dreamed of, Jax agrees to accept help from the one person who has the ability to break him. Again.

When Erin and Jax return to her family’s ranch in Texas they’re forced to face the ghosts of their past and decide if the time apart has changed the love they once shared. They must answer a question that neither is prepared to face – Can your first love remain your true love?

Together they are given a second chance.

At life.

At love.

At everything.

Chapter 1
Jax
Two words.

Something so small and seemingly insignificant shouldn’t have any power at all. But it does.

It has all the power in the world. That’s all it takes to monumentally change everything forever.

Your present.

Your future.

Your life.

Forget every single plan you’ve made or any plans you haven’t even thought of making.

That simple phrase alters everything permanently. Those two words flashing up at me from the screen make my phone heavier with each additional glance. I can’t unsee what I’ve read, and I really wish I could take it all back, ignore the message even for a moment longer so I could appreciate everything before it came through. But I know all too well you can’t take anything back. I try not to live my life with regrets, but there are definitely a couple of things in my life I would alter if I could.

The pressure of the phone is like a thousand pounds rapidly increasing in size, and my hand is failing at holding all of that weight up in the air. My entire body collapses down to the floor as I try to focus on evening out my breathing. The once plush carpet is like sandpaper against my bare knees, but that’s nothing compared to the internal battle I’m fighting. My empty hand grasps at my chest in an attempt to slow down my heart rate, and the crushing mass there intensifies. My breathing falters as I try to gasp even the slightest amount of oxygen into my lungs. I glimpse down again as my panic attack shows zero sign of waning and a single tear falls down my cheek.

I’m pregnant.

How the hell did this happen?

The Boy Friend

Title: The Boy Friend
Author: Mika Jolie
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Published: April 25, 2017

According to the law of attraction, women and men can’t be friends.

Contrary to this myth, my friendship with Coriander Phillips does not rest on unrequited love or un-actualized lust. We’ve been inseparable since the day I pulled one of her pigtails and she punched me in the gut.

She’s hilarious, fun to hang out with. Together, we’re like peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti and meatballs, wings and beer. A match made in heaven.

She’s the bomb.

Did I mention she’s smokin’ hot? I’ve checked her out…maybe once or twice. Hey, I’m a guy.

Seriously, no awkwardness, no secret yearning for our relationship to escalate beyond the purely platonic. I’m the boy friend—the loyal shoulder she cries on, the dispenser of coffee, sympathy, hugs, advice, and affection with no expectations.

Until the invisible line between friends and lovers became blurry.

Now I want more. I want her.

All I have to do is convince her we can be more than friends.

Right?

If only it were that easy.

Mika Jolie is the bestselling author of the Martha’s Way series. She lives in New Jersey with her Happy Chaos—her husband and their energizer bunnies.

A sports fanatic and a wine aficionado, she’s determined to balance it all and still write about life experiences and matters of the heart. Let’s face it, people are complicated and love can be messy. When she’s not weaving life and romance into evocative tales, you can find her on a hiking adventure, apple picking, or whatever her three men can conjure up.

Cutman

Cutman
by Josie Kerr

BLURB
The Cutman

Ryan Richards returned from Afghanistan with more than a shattered body. His heart was in tatters, too. For the three years since then, renovating houses and patching up fighters has been the only thing to quiet his demons—those foisted upon him and those he has created himself. At DS Fight Club, he has a purpose. And when he spends time with sexy trainer Junior Maldonado, he feels more like a real man than a shadow of one.

The Trainer

Injured in the Middle East while an Army Ranger, Junior shared an instant camaraderie with wounded corpsman Ryan…and more than a little bit of attraction. And although Junior has reunited with his high school boyfriend, Ryan’s haunted whiskey eyes are never very far from his mind. He knows Ryan is hurting, and wants the best for his friend.

When Junior returns to Atlanta after his second-chance romance fails, he finds Ryan careening toward rock bottom. Overwhelmed by uncontrolled physical and emotional pain, Ryan is fighting for his life…and hiding the truth. It’s up to Junior to help him see that real men come in many forms, and they are all entitled to love.

Excerpt #1

“That’s right, Ryan. I’ve fucked a lot of men. A lot. But I’ve only ever made love to you. And yeah, this is scary. I get that. But I’m not going to let you run away from me now that I’ve gotten my head out of my ass, not when we’re on the verge of something great. Now, we can take a step back, we can take a whole bunch of steps back, but I’m not going to let you sabotage this.”

Ryan rubbed his face with a shaking hand, and Junior held his breath until Ryan decided to speak.

“Fuck, I thought the ‘have you ever wanted kids?’ conversation was intense.” Ryan’s gaze met Junior’s, and his lips curled up into that crooked grin of his for a brief moment before settling into a contemplative line. “So, yeah. Um, I’m scared shitless, Junior Maldonado. Okay? Scared that I’m . . . not going to be enough. For you. For myself. For anyone. But I promise I’m gonna try, okay?”

Junior reached out and caught Ryan’s hand in his. He raised it to his lips, and after giving it a little squeeze, kissed his fingers. “That’s all I could ever wish for.”

Excerpt #2

Answering the “why” had occupied Junior for most of the fourteen-hour drive from Newark to Atlanta, and he still didn’t have an answer other than he was too damn old to fuck around in a situation that just didn’t feel right. After all, he was closer to fifty than to forty and feeling every bit of his age these days.

Of course, getting shot in the shoulder didn’t help with the whole “you’re only as old as you feel” thing, and truth be told, his body just wasn’t what it used to be. Three words: gray fucking pubes. Dios.

And Junior could just imagine what it looked like to Ryan when he walked into Foley’s and saw the man he’d just spent the weekend with, just opened himself up to, at their bar with a person who had made it clear that he disliked him for no reason other than there was the potential for a rivalry. Yeah, Junior could understand why Ryan was so hurt, although it didn’t necessarily excuse his pigheadedness in the truck.

But the glimpse of Ryan’s face that he caught as he glanced in the rearview mirror? The man’s stricken expression was almost enough to make Junior turn around, grab the corpsman out of the worn front seat of his old truck, and take him home so they could love all the hurt in both of their hearts away.
