After discovering her fiancĂ©’s betrayal with her best friend, Montana cowgirl Penelope King escapes to the vibrant chaos of Marrakech, Morocco. Out of place in the city's opulence, Penny finds herself unexpectedly enchanted by the tall, enigmatic Ilias Lazar. On a fateful evening, Ilias, entangled in state matters but irresistibly drawn to the heartbroken American, shares a night of passion with Penny before vanishing into the morning mist.
Determined to reclaim her sense of self, Penny embarks on a journey through Morocco’s stunning landscapes and rich culture. From the breathtaking desert sands to vibrant encounters with the Berber people, her adventures become a path to self-discovery and renewal. As Penny navigates her way through a land of ancient traditions and modern allure, she realizes that her journey of heartbreak and healing has only just begun—and that true love might be waiting around the next corner.
As I came above the dune, I stood in awe when the sun broke out across the desert. The colors were more iridescent than they’d been at sunset. It was as if the Earth was also standing and taking an enormous yawn, shaking off all the cold air from the night before.
In a way, it reminded me of a sunny yellow morning in the mountains back home. Where the sunlight reflects off the dunes of snow. Had it not been so hot, I could’ve mistaken myself for being on a snowy mountain at sunrise.
“Beautiful.”
Ilias turned and saw me there, a sad smile on his face.
“Not as beautiful as you,” he said.
