Beauty is a gift or what most New Species label as the weakest of them. She is so tired of being treated like she is breakable. One night during a storm she runs out of the dorms and into the rain and runs. She feels free more free than she has in a long time, that is until she runs into Shadow. Shadow thinking Beauty is a human intruder, tackles her. When he realizes his mistake he rushes her into a storage shed out of the storm. They spend the night together and Beauty decides she wants Shadow and is tired of being treated different.

Shadow and Beauty are both damaged by what was done to them by Mercile the research facility that created them. Even though there is danger around them Shadow and Beauty are drawn to each other. Their characters are strong and vulnerable at the same time. Beauty truly isn't a weak or feeble female, she is strong and fights for what she desires most. I loved the struggle in the story of their relationship and it isn't all easy. This book reminded me of real life so much. There is struggle in everything in life but it is up to the person to determine if the struggle is worth it. I praise Laurann Dohner for this book and series. This one especially touched my heart.
