BLURB

His best friend stole his girl—and married her.

Now, Milwaukee Mayhem goalie Alek Bergeron is riding payback straight to the top of his game. He’s got one goal left: hoist the Cup and rub it in his former best friend’s face. But just as the season is about to start, a phone call from the past lands like a body check to the gut.

A twist of fate.

Sheridan Cobert has made a career out of caring for others, but nothing prepares her for the loss of her only sibling—or the shock of learning he named Alek Bergeron, not her, as guardian of her nephew. The same Alek who shattered her teenage heart years earlier.

Alek’s life is in on the ice, his schedule insane, and the last thing he needs is a rambunctious little boy and a jockstrap-murdering dog—not to mention the not so little sister of the guy he hates—upending his neatly ordered world. But neither of them is willing to give up custody, so they strike a fragile truce: cohabitation until the end of the season.

What could go wrong?

Only everything.

Because sharing a roof with the girl he was never supposed to touch is messing with Alek’s game. Especially now that she’s grown up into a tempting, sexy woman. For her part, Sheridan is having difficulty keeping her lips off the guy she’s crushed on for half her life. As the season heats up, so do the nights—and so does the guilt. Because Sheridan is keeping a decade-old secret that could destroy the fragile future their make-shift family is building.

Tropes in this book:
Brother’s best friend
Best friend’s little sister
Forced proximity
Second Chance
Slow burn
Found family

Keeping it real is a contemporary hockey romance loaded with fun banter and sizzle. It is a complete standalone with a HEA!

AUTHOR BIO

USA Today bestselling author Tracy Solheim writes books with shirtless men on the cover. Some of them are actually best-sellers. The books, not the men. When she's not writing, she's practicing her curling. . . bottles of wine, that is. She's been known to cook dinner but no more than two nights in a row. Most days, she'd rather be reading, which to her is just necessary research. She lives in the suburbs of Atlanta with her husband and a neurotic Labrador retriever. Her two adult children visit but not often enough. (See the note above about cooking.) Check out her romantic suspense series featuring the Men of the Secret Service--shirtless, of course! Break Away

Title: Break Away
Series: Riot MC Next Generation
Author: Karen Renee
Genre: MC Romance; Romantic Suspense
Tropes: Friends-to-Lovers; Alpha Hero; Found Family
Release Date: June 24, 2025

from Cheri at Readers Across the Pond - “Great characters, plenty of heat, and a touching story.

from Tracy at Spunky~n~Sassy Blog - “I loved this couple and all the drama, love, family and danger they faced. Such a great story with the Riot MC family. I highly recommend.”

from Caroline at World_of_Books65 - “Karen Renee delivers a love story with grit, heart, and enough heat to burn up your kindle.”

He’s the one who got away…

Rafferty and I were inseparable best friends growing up.
Then it ended.
I avoid him as much as possible, but it’s difficult since the Riot MC is one big family.
When an accident throws us back together, I’m reminded of how much I love spending time with Rafferty and how perfect we used to be. The bitter-sweet reminder comes too late since our lives are headed in opposite directions. He’s a Riot MC prospect, and I’m in dental school.
It’s good that we’ve moved on, because he wouldn’t want a woman who still has her v-card. A man like Rafferty definitely doesn’t want a woman like me.
Or am I wrong?

…But he never got away from her.

Alexandra is the only woman I’ve ever wanted.
After things fell apart between us, I tried to find someone else.
No woman measures up to my loyal, gorgeous, spit-fire friend.
She insists that her life won’t be tied to the Riot MC, which means she doesn’t want a biker like me in her life.
Taking her home after a horrible car crash opens my eyes.
We’ve both changed.
She can run from the club, but she can’t deny that the club always has her back.
It’s time to show her how good we can be.
Not everyone is thrilled with this development, the Riot MC brothers especially. I can handle the brothers by proving I’ll do anything for my woman.
But a threat from Alexandra’s past puts us to a test we never imagined and it might just tear us apart.

Karen Renee is the author of the Riot Motorcycle Club, Beta, and O-Town series of books. She once crunched Nielsen ratings data but these days she brings her imagination to life by writing books. She has wanted to be a writer since she was very young, but it's taken the last twenty plus years for her to amass enough courage and overall life experience to bring that dream to life. Some of those life experiences came from the wonderful world of advertising, banking, and local television media research. She is a proud wife and mother, and a Jacksonville native. When she's not at the soccer field or cooking, you can find her at her local library, the grocery store, in her car jamming out to some tunes, or hibernating while she writes and/or reads books.
