About the Author:

USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author Kat Mizera is a South Florida native. Born in Miami Beach with a healthy dose of wanderlust, she's called Los Angeles, Long Island, upstate New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Atlanta home. She's never been able to pick which locale is her favorite, but if pressed, she'd probably choose the west coast.

A typical PTA mom with a wonderful and supportive husband (Kevin) and two amazing boys (Nick and Max), Kat can usually be found scrapbooking or indulging in her second love (after writing) - traveling. Greece is one of her favorite places in the world. She loves that Athens is a big city with a small-town feel. The food, beaches and culture keep her going back as often as possible.

Kat's been a working freelance writer for nearly 30 years. She sold her first article--a review of a rock concert--for $10 in 1985. Since then she's been an entertainment journalist, waitress, bartender, legal assistant, food critic, magazine editor, substitute teacher, and sports writer. She also spent some time working at A & M Records in Los Angeles.

As you can guess from her Las Vegas Sidewinders series, Kat loves hockey and occasionally writes articles about her favorite team, the Florida Panthers. Saint’s eyes narrowed when she shifted on the bed. “Need the bathroom?”
She willed herself not to flush again. “You don’t miss much, do you?”
He was already taking the cup back. “Trained not to. Come on.”
“I do not need your help going to the bathroom.”
“I can call a nurse if you want.”
Her glare had zero effect on him—he simply shrugged. “Hey, Cindy said to call when you needed to go, so I’m just following orders.”
She didn’t want any company going to the bathroom, but Saint wasn’t going to give her that choice. “Hand me that gown,” she demanded, pointing at another hospital gown on a side rung of the table tray.
“For?”
She snatched the fabric from his hand the second it got close enough. “For covering my bare ass.” Turning the gown backward, she slid it over her arms so that it opened in front, effectively becoming a robe. Her balance wasn’t good enough to both walk across the room without help and hold her gown closed in the back.
“I have no objections to seeing your bare ass.”
She stumbled as her feet landed on the floor. Saint was right there, his hand on her arm, holding her steady. The touch—and his words—sent an unwanted thrill through her. She tried her damnedest to sound tough. “Yeah, not gonna happen, buddy.”
His breath warmed the side of her neck when he leaned close. “Already has.”
She stilled even as a shiver shot down her spine. “Saint—”
He eased back. “Too much?”
“Uh”—she took an unsteady step forward—“a little.”
“Okay.” His free arm wrapped around her rib cage, fingers resting lightly on the opposite side to steady her. “I’ll wait a little longer to mention how much I enjoyed seeing your ass, then. And want to see it again.”
A soft oof escaped him as her elbow hit his ribs. She noticed about the same time that he’d gotten her across the room in record time with barely any strain. The man was good at distracting her.
At the door to the small bath, she gripped the doorframe and turned to him resolutely. “You wait here.”
He opened his mouth to protest.
“Here,” she insisted. “I might not remember much about whoever I was before, but who I am now wants to pee without an audience.”
He chuckled but didn’t try to push his way in. “Just sing out if you need help.”
“Good boy.” She grinned as she closed the door in his face.
“Good boys get to see bare asses,” he called through the door.
She didn’t dignify that with a reply.

Her hand brushed against a white line on her upper thigh, drawing my attention to the cluster of them and away from the place where she slid her fingers over herself. She glanced up at my face when my hand stilled, her own fingers following suit as her piercing green eyes landed on mine.
I clenched my jaw, taking my hand away from the button of my slacks to clench it in a fist at my side. “Butterfly,” I growled, a warning in my voice that sent her hurrying to grab her robe off the floor.
I closed the gap between us before I realized I’d moved, grabbing her by her pretty little neck and raising her until she stood up straight again. She stared up at me, her lips parting open and filling me with the desire to feel them on mine again. My hand tightened on her throat, her own grip shifting up to claw at the ink on the back of my hands as her breathing restricted.
I needed to be inside her. Needed to have part of me be a part of her, but considering the panic threatening my racing heart and what I’d seen on her thighs, that couldn’t happen.
Only the fact that I was very clearly in control, that my grip was on her throat and she was the one who was vulnerable, kept the demons at bay. She opened her mouth wider, my name coming out in a harsh rasp as she struggled to get enough air.
“Scar,” she begged, her body going limp until it was only my hold on her neck that kept her on her feet. If I didn’t control my impulses, the violence surging in my veins, I’d hurt her.
I’d break her.
I reached around her with my other hand, grabbing the tumbler of scotch resting on the end table next to the sofa where she’d likely sat to work herself up to her strip tease. Watching and waiting for her reaction, I drew a sip into my mouth and let it rest there.
I let the burn consume me, then I dropped the tumbler back to the table and leaned my face over hers. Tipping her neck back until her face was parallel to the ground, I tightened my grip just enough that she gasped.
Her mouth flew open in shock, another plea in her eyes as they filled with tears.
She’d find no mercy with me. No protection from the monster she’d awakened with the sight of her scars. I spit the scotch into her open mouth, watching as she struggled to swallow it at her unnatural angle.
When she finally worked the scotch down her restricted throat, something settled inside me. I was inside her. Part of her. And if I gave into the monster inside me, she would never be able to cut me out.
I loosened my grip on her throat, touching my forehead to hers while she blinked back tears. “Now,” I growled, dropping my other hand to the raised white lines covering the tops of her thighs. “What the hell are these and who do I have to fucking slaughter?”

Adelaide fell in love with books at a young age and quickly discovered her love for writing soon after. Since then, she’s become a self-professed plot hoarder of over 300 book concepts.
